Vortech Orville Union Brig
Setup, daily use, controls, troubleshooting, and included interactive examples.
Detailed menu behavior and troubleshooting are below.
Quick Start
- Unbox the Orville Union Brig in a place where you can rez objects.
- Rez the complete linked build and wait for its textures, materials, and scripts to load.
- Make a backup copy before moving, tinting, resizing, or editing the object.
- Position the Brig in your ship, station, or sci-fi interior.
- Touch the keypad or control panel to open its menu.
- Choose Lights On or Lights Off to control the room lighting.
- Choose Field On or Field Off to control containment.
- If you are the owner, select the access and pushback options you want.
PBR and Fallback Appearance
The Brig includes PBR materials and non-PBR fallbacks on the same model.
For the intended PBR appearance, use a current PBR-capable Second Life viewer and allow materials time to load. Residents using older or reduced graphics settings should still see the fallback appearance, although lighting and reflections will differ.
Positioning and Tinting
The build is copy and modify.
- Make a backup before editing.
- Move and rotate the complete linked object rather than individual parts.
- Use Select Face when tinting so you do not accidentally recolor controls, emissive surfaces, or the force field.
- Test any resize on a copy because scripted linked parts, sit targets, and animations may need repositioning afterward.
The white base finish is intended to make custom tinting easier.
Opening the Controls
Touch the Brig's keypad or control panel. The available menu depends on whether you are the owner and which access mode is active.
The owner can see lighting, force-field, group, public, and pushback controls. Other residents receive the smaller interaction menu when the current access mode allows them.
Lighting Controls
Use Lights On or Lights Off to switch the Brig lighting.
The lighting system can also respond to compatible ship commands for normal, red-alert, yellow-alert, and alert-off states. If you use the Brig by itself, the local light controls remain the simplest option.
Force-Field Controls
Use Field On to activate containment and Field Off to deactivate it.
Field activation changes the force-field appearance and plays the matching activation and running sounds. Field Off stops the running sound, plays the shutdown sound, and returns the field to its inactive material.
Test both states after moving or modifying the build.
Access Modes
The owner can choose how other residents interact with the controls.
Private
With Public Off and Group Off, only the owner can use the Brig controls.
Group
Use Group On while Public remains Off to allow the owner and residents who share the object's active group.
Set the object to the intended group before testing this mode.
Public
Use Public On to allow anyone to use the main lighting and force-field controls. Owner-only access and pushback settings remain protected.
Pushback Options
The owner menu provides two pushback methods for collisions with the active field.
- Push Object uses Second Life object push when the parcel and region permit it.
- Prim Push uses a temporary helper object to simulate pushback.
Enable only the options appropriate for your land. Test with a willing avatar before using containment during public roleplay.
Bento Sit and Sleep Animations
Use the available sit points inside the Brig for seated or sleeping roleplay.
If a pose does not fit your avatar, try a small avatar-position adjustment through the viewer's sit controls if available. Do not unlink or resize the build without first making a backup.
Alert Integration
The Brig supports red and yellow alert lighting from compatible ship-control systems. A local setup can still use the ordinary Lights On and Lights Off controls without a larger ship controller.
If an external alert does not reach the Brig, confirm that both objects are owned by the same resident, are in the same region, and use the same computer-control set.
Troubleshooting
The menu does not open
Make sure you are touching the keypad or intended control panel. If the Brig is private, only the owner can open it. If group access is enabled, confirm your active group matches the object's group.
The force field changes appearance but has no pushback
Object push may be disabled by the region or parcel. Check land settings, confirm the owner has the required parcel powers, and try the alternate pushback option from the owner menu.
The force field has sound but the material does not change
Wait for PBR materials to load, then toggle Field Off and Field On again. Use a current PBR-capable viewer. If the problem continues, reset the product scripts on a backup copy before contacting support.
The lights do not change
Try Lights Off and Lights On again from the local control menu. If the Brig is connected to external ship controls, temporarily test the local menu to separate a room-light issue from a ship-command issue.
Red or yellow alert does not work
Confirm the external controller is owned by the same resident, is in the same region, and uses the matching computer-control set. Ordinary local lighting can still work without alert integration.
Group members are denied
Confirm Group On is selected, Public remains Off if you want group-only access, the object is set to the intended group, and the resident has that group active.
The Brig looks grey, blank, or unusually dark
Allow textures and materials time to load. Use a PBR-capable viewer for the intended result and check your graphics, lighting, and environment settings.
